Star of the Sea


Supplies Needed

Font of choice – I used Head Case here

Gem Mask 223 here

My template 188 here

Plug Ins used:
Brush Strokes – Crosshatch
Toadies - Ommadawn

For this tutorial I used Angela Hobb’s “Under the Sea Resale Package” which can be purchased from her resale store here.  Angela, the elements in this package are stunning!  Thank you!    
  
This tutorial was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP. 

~~ Let’s get started ~~

Open up the template.
Shift + D.
Close out the original.
Delete the credit layer.

Highlight LAYER 1.
Select All/Float/Defloat
From the kit, Copy and paste Paper 2 as a new layer just above the template.
Close the paper layer out (You can keep it closed out through the rest of the tutorial).
Right click on the paper layer in your layers pallet, choose “Promote Section to Layer” in the submenu.
Deselect.
Effects/Edge Effects/Enhance
Adjust/Add Remove Noise/Add Noise:
Gaussian and Monochome checked
Nosie: 21%
OK
Delete the template layer.

Highlight LAYER 2.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Move the close out paper layer above this template layer and open it up.
Position the paper so that the sand area is over the template.
Right click and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Close out the paper layer.
To the star paper layer, apply Brush Strokes – Crosshatch:
Match your settings to mine –

Deselect.
DO NOT delete the template layer.

Highlight LAYER 5.
Repeat the above step accept move the blue/green area over the template layer.

Open up a mermaid tube of choice –
Copy and paste it as a new layer above both of the stars – move it into a position you like – see my tag for reference.  Be sure to give the tube a drop shadow at this time.
Close this tube layer out.

Highlight LAYER 2 template.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Highlight the Mermaid tube layer.
Right Click your mouse and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Move the promoted tube layer just above the paper layer that belongs to LAYER 2 template.
Selections/Invert
Selections/Modify/Inside Outside Feather:
Both checked
Feather amount: 20
OK
Tap the delete key 4x’s
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Highlight LAYER 5.
Repeat the above step.

You can delete the closed-out tube layer.
To each starfish-shaped tube layer:
Duplicate
Change the Properties to Hard Light and Lower the Opacity to 32.

To LAYER 3, 4, 6, 9, and 10:

Click on the template with your Magic Wand.
Open up the paper layer and move into a position you like over the template.
Right click and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Give it a slight Inner Bevel:

Adjust/Add Remove Noise/Add Noise:
Use same settings
Apply Brush Strokes – Crosshatch:
Match your settings to mine –

Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Highlight LAYER 7.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Copy and paste Paper 2 Into Selection.
Click the lock icon at the top of your layers pallet to lock the layer.
Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur:
Radius: 10
OK
Give it the same Noise effect.
Unlock the layer.
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Color Pallet:
Foreground: #7b7867
Background: #000000

Make your Color Replacer Tool active.
Highlight LAYER 8.
Double Right click your mouse over the words.
They should have turned black.

Close out the background color in your color pallet.
Make your Ellipse Tool active.
Just above your white background layer create a circle that’s approximately 425 pixels.
Objects/Align/Center in Canvas.

Color Pallet:
Close out your Foreground.
Open up the background.

Make your Text Tool active and move your mouse along the circle until you see a Rocking A.
Click your mouse – a text box will appear.
Type your name again and again until you’ve gone all the way around the circle.
Click apply.
Click on the + sign in your layers pallet.
Click on the eye of the New Ellipse layer.
Highlight and Right click your mouse on Vector 1 layer.
Choose “Convert to Raster Layer”.
Duplicate your name layer.

Color Pallet:
Open up the foreground and change it to #54ddeb.
Reverse the foreground and background colors.
Make your Color Replacer Tool active and double right click on your duplicated name layer. 
It should turn to blue.
Move the blue layer slightly to the right below the black layer in your layers pallet.
Merge Visible both name layers.
Apply Noise effect.
Duplicate the name layer.
To the bottom name layer apply Toadies – Ommadawn:
Use Default Settings.

Open up the paper layer.
Move it just above your white background layer and move into a position so that the sand fills the background area.
Apply the mask.
Merge Group.

Copy and paste the crab from the kit.
Resize 5%.

Add your copyrights.

Close out your white background.
Merge Visible.
Resize all layers 85%.

Under the Sea

Open up the template.
Shift + D.
Close out the original.
Image/Canvas Size:
700 x 700 Pixels
OK
Highlight the background layer.
Flood fill with #ffffff
Delete the following layers:
Credit, LAYERS 10, 9, 8, 7, 5 and 4.

Open Paper 2.
Copy
Paste as a new layer at the top of your layers pallet.
Resize 40%
Close this layer out.

Highlight LAYER 1.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Highlight the closed-out paper layer at the top of your layers pallet.
Right click your mouse on it.
Choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Move the promoted layer just above LAYER 1 template layer.
Click the lock icon at the top your layers pallet to lock the layer.
Apply DSB Flux – Tiler:
Match your settings to mine –

Deselect.
Delete the template layer.
Click the lock at the top of your layers pallet to unlock the layer.

Highlight LAYER 2.
Repeat the above step.

Highlight LAYER 3.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Duplicate the paper layer and open this layer up by clicking on the eye icon.
Bring it just above LAYER 3 template layer.
Move it into a position you like – I chose the sand are near the middle.
Right click your mouse on the layer and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
(Delete the duplicated paper layer)
Lock the layer.
Apply Xenofex 1.0 – Shower Door:
Use Default Settings.
Deselect.
Unlock the layer.
Delete the template layer.

Highlight LAYER 6.
Click anywhere outside of the template with your Magic Wand.
Copy and paste Paper 2 as a new layer above the template.
Resize 25%
Tap the Delete key.
Copy and paste El10 as a new layer.
Resize 30%
Move into position
Tap the delete key.
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.
Merge Visible the rock element and paper layer.
Give the merged layer a slight Inner Bevel:

Highlight LAYER 13.
Merge Down.
Merge Down again.
All 3 small circle template layers should now be on the same layer.
Click on each small circle with your Magic Wand.
Highlight the paper layer.
Promote Section to Layer.
Move this just above the template layer.
Deselect.
Delete the merged template layer.

Add your elements.  I used:
El 5:  Resize 20% (move it behind the large circle)
El 5 again:  Resize 7%/Duplicate 2x’s for a total of 3
El 5 again:  Resize 25% (move behind the rectangle papers)
El 4:  Resize 10%/Duplicate 3x’s for a total of 4
El 16:  Resize 10%/Duplicate
El 9:  Resize 5%
El 3:  Resize 30%

Open up the paper layer.
Move in your layers pallet just above the background layer.
Apply the mask.
Merge Group.
Duplicate

Add your copyrights.

Add your name.
Color Pallet:
Foreground:  #000000
Background: #000000
Stroke: 0.5
Type your name.
Duplicate

Color Pallet:
Foreground: #000000
Background: #41dbdd
Make your Color Replacer tool active and double right click on your name.
In your layers pallet move the colored name layer below the black name layer and move it slightly to the right.
Merge Visible both name layers.
Adjust/Add Remove Noise/Add Noise:
Gaussian and Monochrome checked
Noise: 35%
OK

Close out your white background.
Merge Visible.
Resize all layers 85%.

Little Bug


Supplies Needed

1 tube of choice – I used the artwork of Karen Middleton which can be purchased from CDO.  You must have a license to use.

Font of choice – I used Before the Rain here

Dee’s mask FM2 here

My Template 201 here

My Supplies here –
These are to be used for this tutorial only. 

Plug Ins used:
Brush Strokes - Crosshatch
Mura’s Meister – Copies
VM Distortion - Tumbler
  
This tutorial was written assuming you have working knowledge of PSP. 

~~ Let’s get started ~~

Open up the template.
Shift + D.
Close out the original.
Image/Canvas Size:
700 x 700
OK
Highlight the background layer and flood fill white.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer at the top of your layers pallet.
Apply Mura’s Meister – Copies:
Wallpaper (rotate)
OK
You should now have a paper that covers up the entire area.
Rename this layer MAIN PAPER.
Close this paper layer out.  We will be using it, but there’s no need to open it until I say.

In your layers pallet move MAIN PAPER just above LAYER 1.
Highlight LAYER 1.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Highlight the MAIN PAPER layer.
Right click and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Click on the lock icon at the top of your layers pallet to lock the layer.
Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur:
Radius: 10
OK
Adjust/Blur/Radial Blur:
Use Default Settings.
Apply the Radial Blur effect a total of 4 x’s.
Apply Brush Strokes – Crosshatch:
Stroke Length: 37
Sharpness: 7
Strength: 2
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.
Click the lock icon at the top of your layers pallet to unlock the layer.

Move MAIN PAPER above LAYER 2 template.
Highlight LAYER 2.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Right click your mouse on it and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Click the lock icon at the top of your layers pallet.
Effects/Texture Effects/Mosaic Glass:
Use Default Settings.
OK
Give it a slight Inner Bevel:

Select None.
Delete the template layer.

Move MAIN PAPER above LAYER 3.
Repeat the above step.

Color Pallet:
Foreground: #a4c3d5
Background: #f7d7a8

Highlight LAYER 4.
Make your Color Replacer Tool active and double right click on the template.
It should have changed to a tan color.
Effects/Texture Effect/Blinds:
Width: 2
Opacity: 56
Color: #ffffff
Light from Left/Top checked
OK
Give it the same slight Inner Bevel.

Highlight LAYER 5.
Repeat the above step.

Move MAIN PAPER just above LAYER 6 template.
Highlight LAYER 6.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Right click your mouse on the layer and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Click the lock at the top of your layers pallet to lock the layer.
Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur:
Radius: 6
OK
Apply Distortion – Tumbler:
Use Default Settings.
Click the lock at the top of the layers pallet to unlock the layer.
Deselect.
Give it the same slight Inner Bevel.
Delete the template layer.

Color Pallet:
Foreground: #929cb5
Background: #aa965d

Highlight LAYER 7.
Make your Color Replacer Tool active and double right click on the template.
Adjust/Add Remove Noise/Add Noise:
Gaussian and Monochrome checked
Noise: 35%
OK

Repeat the above step with LAYER 8.

Color Pallet:
Foreground: #eef0f5
Background: #81d2d4
Click on the foreground color and create a gradient:
Style: Sunburst
Angle and Repeats: 0
Invert unchecked
Horizontal & Vertical: 50
OK

Go back and Highlight LAYER 7.
Click anywhere outside of it with your Magic Wand.
Selections/Invert
Selections/Modify/Contract by 4.
New Raster layer.
Flood fill with the gradient.
Deselect.

Highlight LAYER 8 and repeat the above step.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer so that it covers both of the gradient circles.  Rename this tube layer MAIN TUBE.
Change the Properties to Soft Light.
Move it into a position you like.
Highlight one of the gradient circles and click anywhere outside of it with your Magic Wand.
Right click your mouse on it and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.  Again, you’ll have to change the Properties of this layer to Soft Light.
Deselect.
Highlight the other gradient layer and repeat the last step.
Close out MAIN TUBE layer for now.

Color Pallet:
Foreground:  #a4c3d5
Background: #aa965d

Highlight LAYER 10.
Make your Color Replacer Tool active and double right click on the template.
Adjust/Add Remove Noise/Add Noise:
Use same settings.

Highlight LAYER 11.
Repeat the above step.

Color Pallet:
Create the same type of gradient but use these colors -
Foreground: #e59972 
Background: #f2eada

Highlight LAYER 10.
Click anywhere outside of it with your Magic Wand.
Selections/Modify/Contract by 4.
New Raster layer.
Flood fill with the gradient.
Deselect.

Repeat the above step with LAYER 11.

Open up your tube layer.
Mirror
Move it above both your new gradient circles in your layers pallet and move into a position you like.
Like you did with the other 2 gradient circles and promoting layers with the tube, do that above each of these gradient circles.

You can now change the Properties of the tube to Normal and position it in front of all the circles – see my tag for reference.

Add the elements I supplies.

Open up MAIN PAPER layer.
In your layers pallet move it just above the Background layer.
Apply the mask.
Resize 105%
Merge Group.


Add your copyrights.

Add your name.
Color Pallet:
Foreground: #71b6d5  
Background: #9edede
Stroke: 2.0
Type your name.
Give it a slight Inner Bevel:

Resize all layers 85%.
